About SkåNet
SkåNet’s goal is to provide households, businesses and the public sector in the Skåne region with a proper broadband service. In practice, it is a question of coordinating the planning and development of an open digital infrastructure for the Skåne region that is accessible to everyone on equal terms. A modern digital infrastructure will help to make Skåne attractive to both businesses and individuals.
SkåNet is owned by Region Skåne and Kommunförbundet Skåne (the Swedish Association of Local Authorities – Skåne). SkåNet’s initial task was to realise the vision of BAS – broadband for all in Skåne. Today, more than 300 locations in Skåne are connected to the BAS network and SkåNet’s role has evolved to ensure that existing agreements for BAS will be completed. Together with other municipalities in Skåne, SkåNet will continue to work so that households in rural areas will have broadband Internet access.
SkåNet also has an important role in the development of Skåne’s broadband strategy, and to generate statistics and support documentation in order to explore future opportunities for fibre-optic broadband to households in Skåne.
